When Pilates ProWorks asked me to try their new workout they were about to launch, I was IN! Besides the fact that I love trying new workouts, this workout was a trifecta of my favorite ways to sweat.
matBox (their new, amazing workout) combines kickboxing, Pilates and yoga for a total body sweat sesh. It’s truly a fab workout and the time flies by. The lights go out and the black lights comes on; it’s like a party with the boxing bags! The first round starts with a high intensity workout that includes circuits of kickboxing on the bag and tabata style cardio segments off the bag. You will break a sweat! Next, you hit the floor for a round of Pilates to strengthen and tone the core. The final round brings yoga into the workout to stretch your muscles that you just worked and to give you some balance and serenity. Honestly, this combination is perfection.
No experience is necessary to take your first matBox class, just be ready for some fun. They provide boxing gloves, but feel free to bring your own if you have them. You will need to wrap your hands for added protection. Wraps are available for purchase at the studio. Socks are required for class, but if you forget they are also available for purchase. For your first class, you want to arrive 15 minutes early to get your hands wrapped and meet the instructor.
Pilates ProWorks offers a variety of other classes including:
Pilates Pro – This class is a small group workout, with everyone working, sweating on their own FitFormer™ pilates machine. This amped-up pilates class combines resistance, lengthening, strength training and cardio, helping you to feel better than ever.
Barre Pro – This full-body workout is fast-paced while remaining low-impact. You’ll burn fat while increasing stamina. And even though you’ll be asked to combine pilates core conditioning with isometric strength training, you won’t be required to wear a tutu.
Pilates Classic – This is your traditional group reformer class on the FitFormer™. This is a full body exercise that educates, realigns, and balances the body, which builds lean, flexible muscles. The Pilates Method increases coordination and improves body alignment and posture while relieving stress and tension.
Pilates Essentials – This class is great for those that are new to the studio and it’s also a good place for students moving from Post Natal and Private Sessions into group classes. The class is designed to teach you the fundamentals of the Pilates Method.
30/30 – Half pilates and half barre, keeps things exciting in this fusion class. A members’ favorite!
Barre X – Part barre and part TRX, you’ll be sure to get the best (and hardest) parts of both.
Though not required, it is smart to have taken the regular version of each of these classes first. This is a fast paced class, and a little familiarity goes a long way. Sneakers required.
Pre/Post Natal Pilates – Pilates prepares the body for pregnancy by keeping the abdominal and pelvis muscles strong and toned, while teaching breathing for relaxation and pain management. It also helps all those busy new moms get their bodies back quicker, while speeding up recovery after delivery.
Mommy & Me – Get into shape while meeting other moms. This special Pilates class designed for new moms and their babies will help mothers rejuvenate and tone their whole body. For babies six months to crawlers.
TRX Pro – Suspension training is one of the best strength training workout. A set of nylon straps creates resistance from two sources always at our disposal: your body weight and gravity. Combined with cardio and mat Pilates, this class is a total workout! Sneakers required.
I look forward to going back for some more matBox and trying out some of the other awesome classes they have. The studio is located in Edina at the Centennial Lakes Plaza (lower level).
You can sign up for classes by calling the studio or going online.
Maybe I’ll see you there!
