I’m not gonna lie, I like a good red sangria – add that to a family affair with badminton and beautiful weather and you have perfection.
My go-to sangria recipe is:
One bottle of red wine ( I use either a blend or cabernet )
One lemon – cut into wedges
One lime – cut into wedges
One orange – cut into wedges
Splash of lemonade
One cup of strawberries – fresh or frozen
One small can of diced pineapple – with juice
Four cups ginger ale
Two shots of triple sec (optional)
Pour the wine into a pitcher and squeeze the juices from the lemon, lime and orange into the wine. Toss the fruit wedges, pineapple (with juice), lemonade, triple sec and lemonade into the pitcher of wine. Typically, I try to chill overnight or make in the morning for an evening gathering. Before you serve, add the ginger ale, strawberries and ice. Enjoy. I suggest double, tripling or quadrupling the recipe. No really, we had 12 drinkers and went through 4 batches. It’s a hit!
My husband put up the badminton court, we played, we drank, we wore sweet accessories, we grilled, we had fun. The selfie stick made an appearance so that we could get a full family photo.
We had such a blast that there are talks of bringing our skills back to the court in a few weeks when my sister from Denver is here.
I think it might be a good idea to have a sangria tasting competition as well. Everyone can bring their favorite sangria and we will pick our fave! Mmmmmmm.
