We are about to be in full swing holiday mode and while it’s fun to buy all kinds of pressies for our loved ones, there are a lot of people of all ages that don’t have families to share the holiday with.
Here are some fab organizations that help others during the holidays.
Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family – The Adopt-A-Family (AAF) program matches impoverished families with individual or group sponsors to provide for their tangible needs at Christmas. Without the benefit of an adoption, these families would be looking forward to a very grim holiday. Being adopted is designed to be a once or, on very rare occasions, twice in a lifetime event for recipient families.
University of Minnesota Student Parent Help Center (SPHC) Adopt-A-Family – The SPHC serves undergraduate students who are pregnant or parenting children while earning their first degree. These are dedicated, hard working students who are making sacrifices to get an education and provide a better future for their children. The support they receive through this program helps students who might not be able to afford holiday gifts for their children after paying for tuition, books, rent, child care, and other family expenses.
Toys for Tots – U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during November and December and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children. Find a drop-off location here.
Be a Santa to a Senior – Home Instead Senior Care partners with local non-profit and community organizations to identify seniors who might not otherwise receive gifts this holiday season. The company then works with local businesses and retail stores to help facilitate the purchase and distribution of gifts by placing trees and ornaments within their various locations. Each senior’s gift requests are written on a Be a Santa to a Senior tree ornament.
The Great Minnesota Pet Food Drive – Similar to Toys for Tots or food shelf drives, participating locations will have bins in the lobby and customers who love their own dogs, will have an opportunity to help dogs in need by contributing food, supplies, or monetary donations. You can donate at one of the following doggy daycares; Pampered Pooch Playground, Dog Days St. Paul, Downtown Dogs, Dog Daycare and Boarding, Dog Day Getaway or Camp Bow Wow Burnsville.
I hope for everyone to have a happy holiday!
