Mat-Kat is where it’s at!

Mat-Kat is where it’s at!

mat katMat-Kat had me at dark chocolate and coffee (the “Please Men Sympathize” smoothie) – say no more, I love you.

Tucked into the Calhoun Village (Modo Yoga, Orange Theory, Chuck & Don’s), I predict that Mat-Kat will be the hot spot for many of us wanting/needing a healthy fix. I’ve been there for my breakfast smoothie, my lunch smoothie, and I’m bound to get in there for my after workout treat as well. I can’t think of a better place to go to after a run around Lake Calhoun.

The Mat-Kat story in their own words:
Mat-Kat was founded based on the concept of fast, healthy, and delicious food. The founder Sarah Elmtalab and her husband lead busy lives and struggle finding healthy and convenient options for food. Sarah has always been reasonably health conscious, but it wasn’t until 2009 that she became passionate about making healthy food fast to accommodate their lifestyles. Sarah’s husband, Sahand, was hospitalized and diagnosed with Type II Diabetes (T2D) caused by the medication he takes daily for his autoimmune disease, called Autoimmune Neutropenia (AIN). Sahand relies on several medications to stay alive and Sarah is determined to find other options to aid his health.

The name Mat-Kat comes from Sarah’s siblings, Matthew and Krysta. Mat-Kat is founded on the importance of family values and healthy relationships. Coincidentally the day that Sarah approached Maria Kasdagly to work as a consultant to review and advise on Mat-Kat’s menu, Maria had gone to part-time at her job and was feverishly excited about working with Sarah on Mat-Kat’s concept. Sarah quickly realized Maria was a valuable asset to Mat-Kat not just because of her vast knowledge in the food and wellness industry, but also due to her work ethic and family values. Maria’s initials “M K” sealed the Mat-Kat name in place. Today Maria and Sarah are joint owners and with their families they are working to change the way people think about food and the way America thinks about fast food.

So, my favorite fixes so far are:
Punk-Smoothie (Pumpkin, Banana, Coconut Milk, Protein Powder, Cinnamon, and Allspice)
Please Men Sympathize Smoothie (Banana, Protein Powder, Dark Chocolate, Coffee, Maca Root, and Almond Milk)
Lean Monkey (Banana, Protein Powder, Peanut or Almond Butter, Oats, and Almond Milk)
And…the best juice ever:
The Big G (Kale, Apple, Celery, Parsley, Ginger, Cucumber, and Lemon)

Okay, check out the rest of the menu here and make sure to get over there for something fast, healthy and delicious! Trust me, you’ll love it.

Oh, and they will have cleanses rolling out soon. I’ll keep you posted on a launch date. We can all use a little cleanse, especially before and after the holidays.
